MMRDA logoMumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has called for bids to widen and strengthen National Highway-4 and State Highway-40, according to MMRDA official.

“We have invited tenders for widening and strengthening of NH-4 in two phases,” states  MMRDA Joint Project Director (PR) Dilip Kawathkar.

Road widening will be undertaken at various key spots such as Sheel Phata, Palaspe Phata, Takka Colony, Kalamboli Junction and Khanda Colony. A 4-lane flyover will also be constructed on SH-40 at L&T Junction under the project.

“The first phase is between Takka Colony and Palaspe Phata; while the second phase is between Kalamboli Junction and Khanda Colony. MMRDA will spend Rs54 crore for the 3.6 km long 6-lane road,” informs Kawathkar. The present road is without a divider and creates bottlenecks in various patches.

Further, tenders have been invited to construct a 4-lane flyover at L&T Junction on Sheel Phata-Mahape Road on the State Highway 40. “The 450-meter lone flyover will provide for 2 lanes each for up and down traffic. This flyover will be hugely beneficial for the industrial belt in the region,” states Kawathkar.

MMRDA also plans to widen and strengthen the 6.9-km lone 6-lane stretch of the Sheel Phata-Mahape Road. “This project will cost approximately Rs.56 crore and is expected to be completed in 18 months,” informs Kawathkar.
