The Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to cancel barytes mining leases issued in Mangampeta in Kadapa district. The State Cabinet, which met yesterday, has also decided to institute a probe into the allotment of these mining leases in 2004 as it has caused loss to the exchequer. The barytes mined here is in demand globally and the Cabinet has resolved to offer barytes mining leases by inviting global tenders. About 250 hectares in Kadapa is home for some of the best quality of barytes estimated to be worth Rs. 50,000 crore and the State is keen to mobilise resources identifying miners and increasing revenues.
