New Delhi: The newly elected NDA government will start measures to re-track the highway sector in next two years by acquiring funds of around Rs1 lakh crore in a year, according to Nitin Gadkari, Road Transport and Highways Minister. The minister was speaking at a conclave on Budget Aaj Tak today.
“I will prepare a blue print for road sector reforms in a month. I will arrange funds to the tune of Rs one lakh crore in a year… The results will be out in two years,” Gadkari states.
Recently, the new government in a White Paper held responsible the UPA government policies for the poor performance of road segment. Policies like awarding road contracts without proper land acquisition led to decline in execution of road projects wherein around 60% of NHAI’s schemes are involved in disputes.
As per Gadkari, good days were on the anvil for the people of India as the new government has understood the problems of the nation including impediments faced by the highways sector and was working hard to solve it.
He further added that the contractors working in the highways sector will have their payments within a month.
