Piyush Goyal, the Union Coal and Power Minister is in favour to take environment ministry on board in his effort to augment production of Coal India Ltd (CIL). The minister recently met CIL officials in Kolkata. It is known that top officials of CIL has identified that prolonged delays in securing green clearences act as stumbling block in this direction. It is pointed out that differences between two ministries often lead to penalization of coal officials. Last year, coal production suffered a lot after environment ministry started slapping criminal charges against CIL officials for extracting more coal than permitted. According to sources, Goyal assured the CIL that he would sensitise the ministry of Environment and Forest on the issue. The minister later said that his top priorities are to increase coal output and sort out environmental issues.
