According to provision coal production data of the last fiscal, coal production from captive mines in last FY 2013-14 was 39.84 million tonnes, 33.64% higher than the previous year.
It stated, in the year 2014-15, captive coal mines contributed 52.769 mt of coal in the total coal production of 612.435 mt.
The government document clarified, out of total allocated 218 mines, 80 blocks were de-allocated by the end of fiscal 2013-14, due to which by the end of 2013-14, 138 coal blocks were under the captive coal blocks.
The Apex Court of the country had cancelled 204 blocks out of 218 captive coal mines for fresh allocation.
It said, up to 31st March 2015, 42 producing coal blocks were allowed for coal production, whereas allocation of 14 mines was not cancelled.
Earlier, the government had expressed the confidence that by 2020 the country will produce 1.5 billion tonnes coal, including one bt by CIL.
CIL produces over 80% of the domestic coal output.
According to the government provisional data in 2014-15, the total production of raw coal in India increased by 8.25 per cent to 612.435 mt from 565.765 mt in 2013-14.
