MECL Commits CSR Funds to Skill India

Project aims to train 200 Indian youths in its operational locations

  • MECL signs an MoU with NSDF and NSDC, under their CSR initiative, to skill 200 persons over the next 2 years
  • MECL to contribute Rs. 26.7 Lakhs to National Skill Development Fund for the project

Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited, a Miniratna PSE under the Ministry of Mines, has signed an MOU with two entities under Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, the National Skill Development Fund (NSDF) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Under the tripartite agreement MECL will contribute its CSR funds to support a project to skill 200 persons in one or more of its operational areas in India. All programs offered will be aligned to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), which organizes qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude. As per the agreement, MECL will contribute 26.7 lakhs to the NSDF, and NSDC will implement the project through its partner network over the next 2 years.

Speaking on the occasion Pawan Agarwal, Joint Secretary in the Ministry and CEO of the Government owned Fund said, “We welcome this initiative by MECL, a public sector enterprise, to contribute to the PM’s vision of Skill India. We hope to work deeply with MECL in the coming years to have a mutually rewarding relationship and scale these efforts even further.”

Commenting on the partnership, R N Jha, Director (Technical) at MECL said, “As a socially responsible company, we are happy to collaborate with the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in building the nation, transforming lives and investing back into the country.”

Commenting on the partnership, Dilip Chenoy, Managing Director & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) said, “We are delighted to welcome MECL to the fold of companies that have come forward to commit CSR funds towards skill development, and use NSDC’s pan-India network of training partners to achieve this goal.”

According to the agreement, NSDC through its approved training partners will facilitate providing quality training and placement to the trainees through its Training Partner network, with focus on self-employment related training where relevant. The training will be provided in locations identified by MECL upon signing of the MOU.
