Cisco has signed an MoU with the state government on developing smart cities under which it is prioritizing a set of net based solutions for Nagpur.
CRISIL has been appointed as a rating agency by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) as an advisory consultant on smart city.
Cisco’s MD, Pushottam Kaushik during the visit in Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) on smart cities informed the audience that the Cisco has 44 solutions out of which 7-8 solution, company will prioritise depending on the needs of Nagpur city.
The company may present solutions to CRISIL in the next two months and may include the detailed project report (DPR) on smart city.
Kaushik further informed that his company has signed a non-commercial-non-exclusive MoU with the state government, which means the company’s role will be limited to advising and other players will also be allowed. Cisco Investment, its capital arm,would be looking look for some funding opportunities throughout the country in future.
As every city has different requirements, Cisco provides solutions for the requirement of the city. Recently, Cisco had offered solutions in Jaipur which were designed by keeping in mind the tourist influx to the city. Nagpur is coming up as an education hub so the solutions would focus more on floating population and settlers coming here.
The likely solutions for Nagpur can be related to different modes of transport from going to place A from B can be made available through a mobile application or net-based signboards on roads movement of buses can be monitored through GPS and even linking the proposed metro rail with the system later.
Kaushik further suggested installing kiosks to pay taxes and laying down security systems.
He also said that his company has Nagpur high on its agenda and it is looking ahead to associate with any agency specifically appointed to provide digital solutions to the city.
Another networking solution company, Emerson has also signed a MoU with the state to provide system based solution for smart city.
