Govt commences  24×7 power supply project

In order to supply 24×7 power in the country, the government has commenced the process of drafting the National Electricity Plan for next five years.

The government has constituted a committee to work on the National Electricity Plan. In order to deal with various facets, the committee will constitute 11 subcommittees.

The government stated, “The sub-committee-1 ‘Power for All’ will suggest the measures for making available, reliable and quality power to consumers at affordable rates and make assessment in terms of increase in demand due to ‘Power for all’ schemes.”

“For the period from 2017-22 and 2022-2027, other sub-committee will assess the peak and power requirement,” it further stated.

A sub-panel also has been also constituted to assess the generation capacity addition, during 2017-22 from grid-connected renewable energy sources.

Similarly, the sub-committee on fuel requirement will identify and quantify the different types of fuel required to meet the capacity addition, source-wise fuel availability it added.

The Total power generation in the country was 1,048.67 billion units during 2014-15 while it was 967.15 billion units in 2013-14.

As on July 31, country’s total power generation capacity is 2.75 lakh MW.
