Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited (SPCPL), in partnership with Bumi Armada Berhad, an international offshore oil and gas service provider, through its entity jointly controlled with SP Armada Oil Exploration Private Limited successfully installed and commissioned its second FPSO (Floating production, Storage, and Offloading Vessel), the “Armada Sterling II”. The FPSO was inaugurated by Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas (Independent Charge), and will be under Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) time-charter at the Cluster-7 field located about 210 kilometers off the western coast of Mumbai, India.

An FPSO unit is a floating vessel that receives crude oil from subsea, processes it, and stores it until processed crude oil can be offloaded onto a tanker for transportation on-shore. The Armada Sterling II is capable to compress 1.8 million cubic meters of natural gas (MMSCMD) per day along with 26,500 barrels of crude oil and 25,000bbls of Injection water per day for ONGC. The FPSO has a storage capacity of 540,000 barrels of oil as well as accommodation for a crew of 70 personnel.

Shapoor Mistry, Chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji And Company Private Limited stated, “This demonstrates SP Group’s established standing in the oil and gas industry and also the confidence placed by ONGC in our capabilities of successfully delivering FPSOs in record time, once again. Delivery of the second FPSO project is a major step towards ensuring self-sufficiency in the strategically critical area of oil and gas production for our country,” he added. “Interestingly, after delivering the first FPSO in 2012, it took us a record time of 24 months to deliver and install Armada Sterling II after we received the award notification from ONGC. The successful completion of this FPSO is a result of SP Group’s strategic efforts in conjunction with our partners and the valuable knowledge of India and ONGC.”

Chan Chee Beng, Executive Director and Acting CEO of Bumi Armada Berhad added, “The Armada Sterling II is Bumi Armada’s sixth FPSO and the second to be constructed & deployed along-with SP in India for the same client, ONGC. Bumi Armada is proud to have once again worked together with the Shapoorji Pallonji Group to achieve the successful construction, completion, installation and acceptance by ONGC, of the Armada Sterling II.  The success of this FPSO bears testament to the close working relationship that both Bumi Armada and the Shapoorji Pallonji Group have forged, having previously worked on the Armada Sterling, which is currently operating in ONGC’s D-1 field, and also to the continued trust our customer, ONGC, has placed in the Bumi Armada and the Shapoorji Pallonji Group team.”
